What are Your Favorite Camping Recipes?
I’d love some recipes for camping besides s’mores and hot dogs. We do have a Coleman stove but would prefer cooking over the campfire. Easy, creative recipes are best though. Oh, an natural ingredients only please – no “canned biscuits” or powered eggs.
Thanks in advance!
Here are three of my favorite recipes.
1. Meal Packets-
Take a 12×12 sheet of tin foil lined with parchment paper and place in no particular order, potatoes, sausage (or hamburger), carrots, onions, 1-2 tbsp. of butter, salt, pepper and 1 pillsbury biscuit (raw). Wrap foil into a tight and secure packet. Place onto coals in firepit and wait about 10-15 minutes. Remove and eat! For faster cooking time, slice and cube ingredients. This is just the recipe I did at camp but my mom has made seafood packets using cod fillets or perch. It’s a great way to feed a crowd as you can do everything buffet style and let everyone do their own. You could also grill the packets. I know you said no biscuits but you don’t have to use them. Meat and veggie packets are just as tasty!
2. Jelly pies-
You will need a pie griddle for this one (ask for one at a camping store). Place a piece of white bread of the bottom and spread desired jelly or peanut butteron bread. Place another piece of bread on top and close griddle. Pinch off excess bread around the edges and cook over fire for 5-10 minutes. The griddle will have sealed off the edges making a crispy jelly pie.
3. Banana Boat-
Make a slit down the length of the banana and place; chocolate chips, peanut butter, jelly, nutella, raisins, honey, etc. into the slit. Wrap in double-layered tin foil and place in coals of fire for 5-10 minutes. Remove and peel open more and use a fork to mash ingredients together and eat!!
Hope these helped. I’ve found that they make a great way to feed a crowd and remember be creative and add whatever you want!
