what should i do to treat my dog for heartworms?
my family can’t afford to take him to the vet
and my mom knows that he has heartworms
are there any online medications i can buy?

its the only thing i can try for my dog, since we can’t take him to the vet.

im only 15. i can’t control that my mom won’t take my dog to the vet. im just trying to find one way if possible to treat him.
she won’t take him because i used to have a dog that we did take to the vet for heartworms and payed $500 and he died anyway and we still had to pay it.
to one of the answerers: my internet is free, i dont have cable or cell phones, my parents pay for the telephone, and i don’t eat out.

To get rid of the heartworms, yes you have to take him to the vet and it is expensive. I believe that new advances with heartworm treatment (1 pill each month) will not get rid of the heartworms but will stop their growth. Ask a vet to be sure. This would be a less expensive treatment. A pet can live this way for a while (depends on the pet, age ect as to how long) without suffering-depends on how long your pet has had heartworms though. This is a better option than doing nothing at all. My mom adopted a dog with heartworms and surgery was not a recommended option because the dog was old-so the vet recommended heartworm pills. The dog is doing well and is not in pain (although heartworms will shorten his/her life)-again ask your vet. if you cant afford pills, you may want to consider placing the dog in another home where he could get treatment if possible. In the advanced stages of the disease, i believe its pretty painful. If you cant afford a vet, call a help line etc. you owe it to your pet to at least do that. its good your asking the questions though.
