Is there a flea treatment in the form of a swallowable pill available in the US?
I have family harassing me to treat my dog with the elusive “flea pill” to avoid the possibility of harming my child with the pesticides in the drops and the collars, yet I have never seen a pill in any pet store nor does my vet have one available. My in-laws swear it’s what they used to treat their dogs once upon a time, and I’m sick of hearing about it. Does anyone out there have a definitive answer on whether this “pill” exists and is a viable alternative to the topical treatments?
I use Capstar once a month, right before I administer Frontline Plus. My vet told me that Capstar can be used daily. If your dog has existing fleas in large amounts, I suggest confining your dog shortly after giving he/she the pill because within 30 minutes, all of the fleas will just fall off into the floor. I was shocked the 1st time I used it on my cocker spaniel! I was told that it would work fast and effectively, my vet wasn’t joking! There is one drawback if you administer daily… The cost is almost $5.00 USD per pill depending on your vet, if you live in a large or small town, and weight of your dog. Good luck!
