Who has a great, safe, easy dog treat/biscuit recipe?
I have several but am on a bit of a time crunch and would love if someone could provide me with a website or their own special recipe for their pooch. I have a number of wacky ingredients in my kitchen, so it just has to be safe, easy, tasty, and quick.
The rescue dogs that enjoy these treats will thank you!
This is a GREAT biscuit recipe from the Good Food Cookbook for Dogs, by Donna Twichell Roberts. I made these for my dog, Atari — once I got the dough rolled out, the baking took up most of the time (not much hands-on time at all!). Use parchment paper on your baking sheets, and cleanup is a breeze. It makes a huge batch, too. I got more than 100 with one batch.
If you don’t have a bone-shaped cookie cutter, just use a shot glass turned upside-down to make round cookies.
Oh, and all ingredients are safe for dogs — the author did extensive research. Also it smells yummy, there are no preservatives. My husband had one, even! He said it was good but not sweet enough for human consumption.

BANANA BONES
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups Grape-Nuts cereal
2 cups mashed banana (about 5 bananas, the riper the better — I used up the ones my husband and I didn’t want to eat anymore, LOL)
3/4 cup water
4 Tablespoons ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons honey
1. Place all ingredients in a large bowl; mix thoroughly to combine.
2. Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/4 inch thick (just eyeball it). Using a cookie cutter, cut into bone shapes. Combine dough scraps and continue to roll out and cut until all dough has been used.
3. Place cookies on ungreased foil or parchment paper-lined baking sheets, and bake in a preheated 325 degree (F) oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
(I didn’t have that many cookie sheets, so I used two cookie sheets, and while they were baking, I cut out more shapes. When the two cookie sheets came out, I just put the new ones I cut on. The foil helped here, cuz I could just drag the foil with the finished cookies out on the counter to cool, and reload the empty cookie sheets with new cookies to bake right away!)
